Our Family of Good Businesses
Our social enterprise is made up of three unique & interdependent family members that work in unison to provide a more equitable, local food system for both consumers and producers. Collectively, we can radically address systemic barriers to healthy food access, food insecurity, and local food proliferation. Lost? Simply put, we envision a community that naturally supports both small, local producers and neighbors in need through innovative and sustainable systems. In order to do so, we lean on a diverse set of tools and solutions. See below!
Lowcountry Street Grocery
What started out as a school bus masquerading around town as a mobile farmers’ market named Nell is now the heart and soul of our community of businesses. At its core, LSG is a radical yet simple solution to a systemic problem: Food Equity. A self-sustaining social enterprise that engages innovative business tools utilized by all community members.
LSG leverages the high demand for healthy, high-quality, local food to directly address the need for the same for neighbors that need it most. We call it Robinhood Economics. Through a strategic sliding scale w/ SNAP/EBT incentives, we ensure that where you live & how much you earn don’t predetermine your family’s health.
Access to local, healthy, affordable food is a right, not a privilege.
Community Supported Grocery
The intersection of local food and convenience. CSG sorts, curates, and delivers weekly bundles of local groceries with recipes, producer info & dietary restriction compliance. Part CSA, part local version of Jeff Bezos, and customizable with hundreds and hundreds of Add-Ons.
CSG alleviates market stressors for over 300 local growers and producers while introducing their harvests to untapped customers and too-often overlooked neighbors that lack transportation and/or are experiencing food insecurity.
Bundles range from $5-10 (with SNAP/EBT) to $100 for specialty & large family.
GroceryRx
Food is medicine-a concept as old as recorded time. GroceryRx (GRx) is our way of employing our inventory and knowledge to clinical settings to directly combat diet-related illness. The intensive, in-house nutrition program targets individuals who fall through the gap of our broken healthcare system as well as low-medium income neighbors that don’t qualify for federal or state aide.
Following a structured nutrition class, patients receive weekly fruit & vegetable prescriptions redeemed through the mobile market or CSG deliveries. GroceryRx includes cooking demos, recipes, and clinical guidance for special diet needs. GRx guiding principles include: focusing on equal access ANDequal education for sustainable change; Preserving & respecting culture; Understanding that community is essential to engagement.
