Our Family of Businesses
Community Supported Grocery is one of three small social enterprises under the Lowcountry Street Grocery umbrella. As a scalable online delivery platform, CSG is the economic and logistics engine for Lowcountry Street Grocery, ultimately proliferating its shared mission of a more equitable local food system. CSG also leverages the sales of high-quality, high-demand healthy local food to directly address the need for the same for neighbors that need it most. We call it Robinhood Economics.
What started out as a school bus masquerading around town as a mobile farmers’ market named Nell is now the heart and soul of our community of businesses. At its core, Lowcountry Street Grocery (LSG) is a radical yet simple solution to a systemic problem: Food Equity. A self-sustaining social enterprise that engages innovative business tools utilized by all community members. Through a strategic sliding scale w/ SNAP/EBT incentives, LSG ensures that where you live & how much you earn does not predetermine your family’s health. We believe that access to local, healthy, affordable food is a right, not a privilege.
*Currently, the mobile farmers market is on pandemic-hiatus but returning to action in Spring of 2022!
The intersection of local food and convenience. Community Supported Grocery (CSG) sorts, curates, and delivers weekly bundles of local groceries with recipes, producer info & dietary restriction compliance. Part CSA, part Jeff Bezos but local, and customizable with hundreds and hundreds of tasty Add-Ons.
CSG alleviates market stressors for over 300 local growers and producers while introducing their harvests to untapped customers and too-often overlooked neighbors that lack transportation and/or are experiencing food insecurity.
Bundles range from $5-10 (with SNAP/EBT) to $100 for specialty & large family.
Food is medicine. A concept as old as time. GroceryRx (GRx) is our way of employing LSG's inventory and knowledge to clinical settings to directly combat diet-related illness. The intensive, in-house nutrition program targets individuals who fall through the gap of our broken healthcare system as well as low to medium-income neighbors that don’t qualify for federal or state aide.
Following a structured nutrition class, patients receive weekly produce prescriptions redeemed through the mobile market or CSG deliveries. GroceryRx includes cooking demos, recipes, and clinical guidance for special diet needs. GRx is outperforming efficacy goals with data-driven results. Our guiding principles include: focusing on equal access AND equal education for sustainable change; Preserving & respecting culture; Understanding that community is essential to engagement.
